My summer tour of Dudley South has now finished and I think it’s fair to say this has been one of the most successful and enjoyable summer tours since of the last five years. After visiting all six wards of the constituency (including some twice) I finished things off with a lovely afternoon speaking to the good people of Brierley Hill at the Market on Saturday afternoon.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to stop for a chat with me along the way. I had a number of really interesting chats about a whole range of topics – you can guess that Boris and Brexit came up a few times. It’s an honour to represent your views in Parliament and I never take my position of responsibility in the local community for granted. Whatever political drama may be unfolding in Westminster, all politics is ultimately local and all politicians are accountable to those who elected them. Whether in my days as a teenager campaigning against post office and library closures to winning a General Election in a marginal seat, politics comes from the heart and most politicians do it because they want to make a difference to the lives of the people they serve.

On Saturday 3rd August I announced live (and exclusively) on Black Country Radio that I have been appointed as Parliamentary Private Secretary to the new Home Secretary – Priti Patel. I’m very excited by this opportunity to help the Home Office deliver 20,000 extra police officers and strengthen law, order, security and our borders.

It was therefore very fitting that I recently spent a day of the summer recess at the start of the month out and about with the Neighbourhood Policing Team in Brierley Hill to experience a day in the life of some of our local officers. It was a really enjoyable experience and I’d like to thank all the police officers I spent time with for their excellent company and for all their hard work in keeping our area safe.

Preparations are already well under-way for my fifth Dudley South Jobs and Careers Fair on Thursday 26th September, which I am hosting at Brierley Hill Civic Hall again this year. I’m really excited to give local people another opportunity to network with potential employers and discover the wide range of jobs available in various industries. Please do get in touch with my office if you would like some more information at this stage, although further details will be released in the coming weeks.

As mentioned in my last column, I have taken my family away on holiday for a couple of weeks, however, my constituency office on Wordsley High Street remains open as normal, so please feel free to call, email or pop in if there is anything my team and I can help you with.
