Dudley South MP Mike Wood is calling on local people to join him, local councillors and community volunteers in rolling their sleeves up for a weekend of community clean-ups as part of the Great British Spring Clean.

The MP is organising four litter picks this Saturday and Sunday (3rd and 4th March) in a bid to bring local people together to help clear up some of the litter that blights areas of the community.

Last year, the national campaign set-up by the environmental charity ‘Keep Britain Tidy’, saw volunteers collect a staggering 70,000 wheelie bins of rubbish over one weekend, with over 300,000 people participating.

Mike is encouraging his constituents to get involved as much as they can this weekend, saying, “We all have a part to play in making sure that our local communities are places that we are proud to live and work in, which is why I am calling on everyone to join me for the community clean-ups this weekend.

“It would be great to see as many local people as possible out this weekend to join in the Great British Spring Clean here in Dudley South.”

Keep Britain Tidy Chief Executive Allison Ogden-Newton added: “Littering is a serious issue that blights the beautiful beaches, countryside and cities of the UK. It also has a devastating effect on our wildlife.”

“The Great British Spring Clean is an opportunity for everyone who cares about the rubbish scarring our country and threatening our seas to take a stand.”

On Saturday 3rd March, Mike and Pensnett community activist Sue Greenaway will be leading the first clean-up of the weekend meeting at Fens Pool Community Centre at 10am. There will then be another session with Cllr Ed Lawrence starting at 2.30pm, meeting outside the British Oak Pub on Stallings Lane in Kingswinford.

On Sunday 4th March, Mike, Donna Harley and the team will meet at 10am in Wordsley, by the Spar on Lawnswood Road. The final litter pick – led by Mike and Phil Atkins – will take place in Brierley Hill, meeting on the corner of Church Street and North Street.

If you would like to join Mike and local Councillors and candidates at one of these locations this weekend, you can call Mike’s office on 01384 913 123 for more details.
