The Essence of India restaurant in Brierley Hill has been Highly Commended in the prestigious Tiffin Cup competition after being nominated by local MP Mike Wood.
The Tiffin Cup is a national competition organised by MPs to find the best Asian restaurant in the country, where finalists from each region are invited to a Grand Final cook-off in the House of Commons.
Although Essence of India wasn’t selected to represent the West Midlands region in the Grand Final of the Tiffin Cup, the organisers of the competition were immensely impressed by the nomination.
On Friday evening Mike Wood dropped into the restaurant on Brierley Hill High Street to present the staff with a certificate and embroidered Tiffin Cup 2019 apron to mark their outstanding achievement in this year’s competition.
Mike Wood’s enthusiastic nomination came after the MP visited the restaurant last year for the launch of the Carol’s Last Wish Foundation.
Mike Wood, MP for Dudley South, said: “The decision of which restaurant to select was a difficult one as we have a number of excellent curry houses across Dudley South.
Last year’s winner of the prestigious competition was a fellow midlands restaurant – Redolence in Redditch.
“Congratulations to Essence of India for going so far in this year’s competition when competition across the country is so tough.
“It was a pleasure to present the staff with their well-deserved certificate and commemorative apron – very well done to everyone.”
Keith Vaz, the co-chair of the Tiffin Cup said: “We are delighted that Essence of India has been Highly Commended in the Tiffin Cup 2019.
“This is a great tribute not just to the nomination of Mike Wood MP but also to the constituency of Dudley South as a whole.”
Congratulations to Essence of India for going so far in this year’s competition when competition across the country is so tough. It was a pleasure to present the staff with their well-deserved certificate and commemorative apron – very well done to everyone.
