Dudley South MP, Mike Wood, is proud to announce that Bella, his Westminster office dog – gained second place in this years’ Westminster Dog of the Year 2019 competition.

The competition took place earlier this month, where a combination of a public vote and a judging panel saw Carol Monaghan (MP for Glasgow North West)’s Bull Terrier/Collie cross crowned Westminster Dog of the Year 2019, with Bella just missing out on the top place!

Dogs of all shapes and sizes, regardless of breed, creed or ‘pawlitical’ persuasion were due to take part in a Crufts style obstacle course until it was called off due to increasing safety concerns with anti-Brexit protestors…

It was jointly organised by Dogs Trust and the Kennel Club, the competition offered a unique opportunity to celebrate our furry friends, whilst raising important issues about animal welfare.

Proud of Bella, Mike explains: “I’m incredibly proud of Bella for coming second place in this year’s Westminster Dog of the Year competition. She is a lovely dog and has provided my researcher with love and emotional support whilst he underwent radiotherapy.

“I have two elderly rescue dogs at home, and know how much joy pets bring to people young and old. We are a nation of animal lovers and so, as well as celebrating our fantastic dogs, we need to look at what more we can do to safeguard pets from harm and mistreatment.

“Very well done to all the dogs who entered and I’m already looking forward to next year’s competition.”
